How to Make Catalog Marketing Work for You

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Catalog printing is great to get direct sales for your business. Nevertheless, do you really know how to make catalog marketing work for you? Do you know how to take advantage of catalogs?

Do you know how to develop a business image, establish a reputation and thereby increase sales success?  If you just print catalogs for sales, not really for TRUE marketing purposes, then read on, and let me tell you how you can make catalog marketing work for you.

•    Making marketing catalogs: First, let us tackle the tricky task of making your marketing tools. There are three simple steps to do this.

?    Research – Initially, you may need to research. You cannot just print without some idea as to how to do it correctly. Do some market research about your target market and see the ideal things that they like to see. Also, try to determine where your target market usually hangs out, and what methods are easiest to get them to have a copy of your marketing tool. Gather your data in one location and study it to get a better idea of how you should design.

?    Design – With research done, you should be ready for the design. Based on the data you collected, it should be pretty obvious what kind of design you will need. You will know, depending on the wants and needs of the target market the appropriate design theme to use. For example, if you have to present them to corporate clients, then a more professional looking catalog is warranted. However, a more general audience can make do with simple and easy to understand catalogs with nice and vibrant colors. Just design in a way to appeal to your target marketing and you should be fine.

?    Print – Finally, to get them produced you must turn to a printing company. I recommend using an online printing service for this so that you can have an easier time. You will just have to pay for the printing services and wait to receive the final output. This is a far better cry from creating them yourself one by one using your office printer. With that, you should have some nice output done.

•    How to give away: Now, let us get into the hard part and that is the distribution. To succeed in your marketing, you have to distribute to as many number of people as possible. There are three ways to do it.

?    Postal Service – If you have customers clear across the country, the best way is to mail them. This comes at an investment in the form of postage stamps and envelopes, but this has a potential to reach a lot of people across far distances. You will need exact names and addresses though so this can be difficult. However, if you can pull it off, you can reap a lot of benefits indeed.

?    By hand – If you want a more local approach to distribution you can also do it by hand. By just going around giving away to customers at your shop the people outside and even leaving some copies at public places you can get the marketing word out across a lot of people in your area. While this can be a hit and miss affair at least this is the cheapest and easiest way to distribute.

?    By products and other items– Finally, you can distribute by just leaving a few copies of them within product packaging or via public and press relations kits. This will directly give your most loyal customers and the most important media outlets a chance to study and want the products.

Now you know how to make color catalogs and how to use them for marketing. You can now probably go ahead with your own marketing campaign with some semblance of a good plan. Good Luck!

Things to Know about Offset Printing

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

You decide on a particular marketing push. Then, you decide to use brochures as your prime source of advertising.  Thus, you hire people out to design your brochures.

Just as you get people who analyze the market to figure out the best style to use and places to send them to. All you have left is the actual printing, and then you are done. How much do you know about what goes into printing?

Almost every other part of marketing you are likely to have a closer hand in. Whoever is designing your ads are likely to keep you closely posted on the process, just as the research that goes into where your marketing should focus will be handed to you.

However, what exactly do you know about the printing process? You are not likely to have access to the kind of equipment a printing company uses, and printing at your office will not be anything like the printing a printing company is going to do.

This is the part of marketing that is hard for a company to really understand unless they do outside research into the field, and many people are not willing to take the time to do so.

What happens is a lot of companies end up using a printing method that is not best for them, or do not look into the best ways to save money.

Here is a tip: the bigger your printing order is the better the odds that offset printing is going to be the best method of printing for you. Offset printing is what any company who needs to have a large order and has the time needed to print them is going to use. This kind of printing is not the fastest kind you can get, but for large orders, it is by far the most cost effective.

The process involves creating a plate with your designs on them that are run through the printer, creating as many copies as you need. Nevertheless, here is what happens: the initial cost for offset printing is a lot higher than other forms of printing, such as digital printing. If a company does not know all the details, they look too much at the initial cost and not at the cost per number printing.

The more copies you print the better the deal, while with other methods such as digital printing the exact opposite is going to be the case. Of course, if you have a small order to begin with than the initial lower costs of digital will work better for you, but when those orders get up into the hundreds or even thousands, offset printing should be your first and only stop.

All it takes is a little knowledge of the field to know what will serve your needs, but if you do not know what is out there you cannot know how it can help you the most.

The Basics in Business Card Etiquette

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

One thing you should not do with your business cards is to leave them sitting in the box that they came in when they are already delivered in your door. The objective of having them printed is to hand them out as soon as possible.

In fact, the faster you send them out, the better. Notwithstanding the fact if they were printed by an online business card printing company or a traditional one

Here are ideas on how you can get other people to see them:

1- Keep them nearby. Whether you put them in your pocket, your bag, your briefcase, and wallet or even on your desk, the purpose of the exercise is to keep them near you that every time there is an opportunity for you to network, you will be able to hand one out. Remember that every place and every person is a chance for you to introduce yourself, so never leave home without them.

2- Present a stylish and professional card. Always keep your cards in holders that would not be able to bend them. When you hand them out, it would be to your benefit if you do not give garbled and bent ones just because you were not in the right mind to buy a good holder. In addition, if you have your contact information change, be sure to have new ones printed right away.

3- Place them where they can be seen always. Think bulletin boards, church announcement boards, supermarket panels, in your shop, in the restaurant, in other people’s stores – the idea is to have your target clients to get as many of your business cards as possible.

4- Include them in all the bills and letters you have to send out. You will never know who will open your envelope. It would be another opportunity for you to network yourself and your business.

5- Use the back of your cards to jot down notes. Do not put your ideas on table napkins or scraps of paper. Writing down notes about the person you are talking to makes them feel important, hence, providing them a reason to keep it.

6- Give your target audience a reason to keep what you handed out. Put a discount, print a coupon, or write a calendar of activities at the back part.

One business etiquette that you have to remember though is to never force your cards to anyone. Make sure that you do it appropriately. Present them when the time is right and be sure to ask for their business cards as well when you are networking or meeting prospects.
