Developing niche ideas is encouraged when marketing on the internet since selecting the right niche can prove to be lucrative. In fact it is common for many online marketers to always be exploring new niche markets in order to spread their risks and increase their income. With that said developing multiple niche markets gives you the opportunity to create multiple streams of income while decreasing the amount of competition you face.

Here are 3 relatively simple and quick ways to determine if your niche is a good fit for you and has the income potential you want.

Develop Ideas

It is suggested to do a little brainstorming and list out all the things you may have an interest in to help you develop ideas for your niche. Infiltrate Your Target Market

It will be at this point where you will begin to determine what type product or service should be found or developed for your marketing purposes. Check for Demand and Profitability

Now that you have ‘narrowed’ down product type(s) that can or should be offered for your niche selection it is time to determine profitability. Using online search engines and a reliable keyword tool you can now begin your keyword research.

First develop a keyword list that is relevant to your product ideas and niche. Without making this complicated simply because it really is not you want to first check for demand. This is determined by the number of searches a particular word generates monthly and can be found by using a keyword research tool.

Doing your keyword research I suggest using the free Google keyword tool for now since it will suffice for what you are doing here.

After determining the strength of demand for your keywords do an internet search using the same keywords. Examine your search results and pay close attention to the number of ‘paid’ ads that show up which will be found on the right hand side of your search results page. Simply stated if people are willing to pay for advertising the market is probably profitable.

Bingo you have now found your niche!

Repeat business is important. Online marketing can help draw people into your business but that is not what keeps them coming back for more. Excellent products and services will help keep your business flowing and if you want to remind your customers about your business then offer them some logo imprinted supplies for their computer desk so every time they get online they will be thinking about your business.

E-mail is very useful in this situation. You need to keep in regular touch with your customers this way. That will help them to remember that you are there and that they were happy with your business before. You also need to ask you current customers to give you referrals. This is something that you can send thanks for with a promotional treat for them. Just a little something that will make them feel appreciated is enough.

How your products look when they go through the mail is a total big deal as well. You want to use every possible chance that you have to get more advertising and exposure. Especially if it is free. Use the packaging for advertising messages when you send stuff in the mail. Put stickers on there with your logo and web address.

Anytime that you want to secure more customers in any type of business you need to have good service and decent products. You also need to advertise on many different levels. Marketing Strategy in a recession

In a recession most business leaders will mentally accept that trading conditions are difficult and as a consequence lower expectations/goals. This mind set can then become self fulfilling as the mental state that creates this thinking will determine the actions of that individual. His reduced expectations are felt by employees and, guess what, standards slip, performance suffers and targets are not met but he accepts it all.

Many business owners will expect poor performance or even “freeze” become inert and incapable of making decisions.

If you think you’ll lose you will, if you believe you can win you very probably will.

If you are responsible for dictating budgets don’t cut the marketing budget, if you are responsible for marketing but don’t dictate the budget, fight to ensure it isn’t cut with reasoned argument and the proven factual arguments for maintaining spend

The key to success is to not cut your marketing budget and do nothing but to revise your marketing strategy. The following ideas are all crucial marketing activities in a recession and your strategy should be altered accordingly:

1. Hold back on any “test” marketing and concentrate on doing more of what you know already works.

2. Ensure you have an effective programme of keeping in touch with existing customers to ensure loyalty, using every means possible; e-mail, letter, newsletters, phone call, personal visit, make them feel wanted especially during a recession, if you have their confidence they’ll want to stay safe…with you.

3. Identify the element of your prospects and existing customer base least likely to be affected by a recession either through the nature of their business or their financial strength and concentrate your marketing strategy on them, seek successful vertical markets. Avoid marketing to sectors most affected they will prove to be less profitable and obviously more vulnerable.

Try to develop a “We are the experts” mentality in your marketing. In a recession customers want to stay safe with somebody who knows what they are doing….”the Authority” on a subject.
