Some of the affiliate marketing programs can make you richer by millions of dollars. However, it takes patience and lots of hard work to succeed in the world of affiliate marketing. It is better if you do not quit your full-time job before your site starts making money. You should target certain revenue and try to increase it in increments. Once you are comfortable with the concept and your site’s revenue potential, then is the time to take the plunge.

The success of affiliate marketing depends on the number of visitors that you can attract to your site and the ability of the visitors to click on the ads that are displayed on the site and possibly buy the products advertised there. Thus, the first requirement is that you have a good website with relevant content and you have placed targeted ads on the sites. If you do not have a web site yet, build one. And make sure that you have placed the links of the affiliates in such a way as to attract the maximum number of visitors.

You should build your site in such a way that potential visitors are not put off by the site design and the look and feel of the web site. The intention must be to make the visitors to the site buy the products and in general contribute to the advertising revenue from your site. The rate at which the visitors click on the buy button compared to the ones that just simply view the ads is called the conversion rate. The higher this rate is, the better it is for your site and yourself.

You should choose a merchant program that has good pay outs for affiliates like you. There are some really good merchant programs that pay out very well as there are programs that pay out smaller amounts. Thus, it is up to you to choose which program you are going to join. There would be lots of competition among the affiliates and this is where your creativity and motivation come into the picture. If you can motivate yourself even when you are not earning money and still add creative content to your site, you can come out of the bad patch easily.

Finally, give yourself a chance. You can slog it out for a few months or for a time period in which you feel that you can make money. If it works, then you can go full time into it. Otherwise, you can always pursue this as an interest.
